Restoring Smiles

Many things can adversly affect the appearance of your teeth: yellowing, decay, misalignment, broken or missing teeth, and periodontal disease.   Dr Teachout can address these problems and give solutions to help you regain or create the smile you want.

Implants

About Dental Implants:

With nearly 40 million Americans having lost some or all of their teeth, dental implants are a popular option for replacing those lost teeth.

Implants are metallic titanium objects inserted into the jawbone to act like a natural tooth root.

Titanium isn't recognized by the body's immune system, so it is not rejected as an implant.  It integrates with the bone giving firm support for the artificial replacement that it will support.

Reasons for Implants:

Stable foundation for dentures

Restores proper chewing ability

Improves biting pressure

Eliminates tooth shifting

No loose dentures

Comfort and fit

Improves speech

Increase self confidence when talking and smiling

Fillings:

When there is decay detected on a tooth,( or if a tooth becomes fractured or chipped), a filling may be necessary. This involves removing the decay and placing a resin type material that matches your tooth color.

Teeth Whitening:

Whitening or bleaching  is a safe, quick, at-home process that whitens your teeth. Bleaching is tough on stains, but gentle on your teeth.  It can remove many stains that are in the outer layers of the tooth.  If your teeth have yellowed with age or are stained from tobacco, tea, coffee, or food, bleaching may restore their natural whiteness.  Antibiotic (tetracycline) stains and discoloration caused by an injury may take longer to bleach and not respond as well.

Veneers

Veneers are a thin, translucent coating made out of porcelain or resin(plastic). They are applied to the front teeth to improve their color, size, or shape.  Veneers can help you achieve the smile you want.

Crowns

A crown (also called a cap) is a man-made cover that protects the top of a tooth.  It may be used to restore and preserve a decayed, broken, or cracked tooth.  Crowns can also correct some cosmetic tooth problems, giving you a better smile.

Bridge

If you are faced with tooth loss, crown and bridge treatment may be the best option for you.  A bridge is a custom-made device anchored to neighboring natural teeth, which replaces one or more missing teeth.  When a lost tooth is replaced with bridgework, the teeth on either side of the missing one are prepared as crowns to hold the bridge in place.  Bridges, sometimes referred to as a fixed partial denture, look natural and litterally bridge the gap where one or more teeth may have been.  Fixed bridges appear and function similar to natural teeth and remain in the mouth at all times.  They can only be removed by your dentist.

Why ViziLite Plus is Important

ViziLite Plus as part of a comprehensive oral screening

Oral cancer is one of the most curable diseases when it's caught early. That's why the ViziLite Plus exam has been developed.  ViziLite Plus uses technology that has proven successful in identifying soft tissue abnormalities in other areas of the body.  A ViziLite Plus exam is particularly important if you are at increased risk for developing oral cancer.
Am I at risk?

How ViziLite Plus Works

ViziLite Plus with TBlue 630 is an oral lesion identification and marking system that is used as an adjunct to the conventional head and neck examination. It is comprised of a chemiluminescent light source (ViziLite) to improve the identification of lesions and a blue phenothiazine dye to mark those lesions identified by ViziLite. ViziLitePlus with TBlue 630 is designed to be used in a patient population at increased risk for oral cancer.

ViziLite Oral Lesion Identification System

In clinical trials involving 13,000 female patients, abnormal squamous epithelium in the cervical complex appears acetowhite after rinsing with a dilute acetic acid solution. Similarly in the oral cavity, after rinsing with a dilute acetic acid solution, abnormal squamous epithelium tissue will appear acetowhite when viewed under ViziLite's diffuse low-energy wavelength light. Normal epithelium will absorb the light and appear dark. ViziLite can assist a dentist or hygienist in identifying an abnormality in the oral cavity.

TBlue 630 Oral Lesion Marking System

TBlue 630 is a patented, pharmaceutical-grade toluidine blue-based metachromatic dye. It is used to further evaluate and closely monitor changes in ViziLite-identified lesions. It has been proposed that living cells will differentially accumulate toluidine blue based on parameters related to metabolic activity. TBlue 630 , packaged in an easy to use 3-swab system, provides the deep blue staining that allows ViziLite-identified lesions to be seen clearly under normal light.

Prophy-Jet

Patient comfort and clinical efficiency are now a perfect fit thanks to Cavitron's breakthrough Sustained Performance System. SPS Technology maintains scaling effectiveness at ultra-low power settings. PROPHY-JET is an air polishing prophylaxis system which uses air/water/sodium bicarbonate slurry to remove extrinsic stain, dental plaque and soft debris while, at the same time polishing tooth surfaces. Recommended to clean tooth surfaces prior to bonding procedures and placement of dental sealants. Highly effective in use on patients wearing orthodontic appliances. Sodium bicarbonate is accepted by most patients and is both minimally abrasive and water soluble total prophylaxis system that combines both scaling and air polishing in one unit. Patient comfort: Because SPS Technology maintains power, lower power is used, compared to the Cavitron
